When the planned direct-carrier option does not cover the move, Skypace checks its own carrier contracts and places the available alternative beside the original plan before the booking changes.
An alternative sailing from Skypace contracts
When the direct option no longer covers the move, an alternative sailing from Skypace's own contracts is priced and submitted into execution on the same booking.
The operator sees the shortfall against the direct allocation, checks space on Skypace's own contracts for the same lane and week, and confirms the price and free-time terms. The alternative is placed beside the original plan with the difference in cost and arrival date. On approval, the booking moves to the Skypace contract, and the shipment record keeps both options and the reason for the switch.

Drewry reported on September 11, 2026 that 79 blank sailings were expected across the major East-West trades between week 38 and week 42, out of 721 planned sailings. A direct contract gives the shipper a rate and a service commitment; it does not keep a specific sailing in the schedule. Because a cancelled or oversubscribed sailing leaves the move without space on the planned contract, Skypace keeps its own carrier contracts available as a second commercial path on the same record.
